ASUS 8.9″ Eee 4GB PC Netbook Computer with Linux - Purple
ASUS 8.9″ Eee 4GB PC Netbook Computer with Linux - Purple Review

” I bought this for my wife, she need a laptop/notebook for a week long conference she is attending. She loves purple and wanted something like this to check her email, webmail and do some surfing while away. This was the perfect gift IMO.
Pluses:
Small: can almost fit in her purse.
Wireless: Supports 802.11b/g WEP and WPA
Price: You can’t beat the 9.99 price
Purple: It’s purple, she loves it.
Linux: Linux has negatives (read below) but it also has it’s plusses like a software repository of software that can be installed for free.
Minuses:
Linux: It runs Linux. I love Linux, but for my wife…. Well she wishes it came with MS Word. It does come with Open Office, but she says that sometimes OO will format Word docs incorrectly. (BTW: Open Office is FREE and it still displays most documents correctly.) Also, this means it mostly cannot run Windows software.
Small Keyboard: The keyboard and mouse is hard to use. My wife is not a little woman. She has beautiful hands that are adult sized. This can make it difficult to type long documents and use the mouse effectively. I have suggested a portable mouse and keyboard when she has to get real work done on the machine when she is not on the go.
Battery life: Advertised is 3.5 hours, but if you have the wireless on, sound, and don’t dim the screen that time shrinks to about 1.5 - 2 hours. Not great.
Overall, this is great device. I want one myself (not purple) for business trips. I would prefer something with better battery life, but I could be ok with this for the price. I have a laptop which is great for moving from office to office, but completely impractical for traveling and moving around with. This would be great for the person who is always on the go, can carry a small portable device and is ok with not having the latest and greatest machine for their use. “

| Review by Jonathan Cordova (USA) 2010-07-16 The best thing here is actually the price. For well under $ 299 you get a laptop with functional reference all the bases, but without frills. | Review by Jonathan Roylance (SALT LAKE CITY, UT USA) 2010-07-23 First, the battery life was impressive. I never got 9.75 hours out of it, but still more than 7, for sure. And I was accustomed to using Home and End keys, b... | |
